Historic novel based on the first permanent colony in Ontario: the French-Canadian
parish of L’Assomption on the shores of Detroit River (now Windsor). Action spans
roughly over one decade (1785-1795). This period includes the creation of Upper Canada
(1791), the opening of the first school (1786) and the first elections in Ontario
(1792). The main characters are fictional – a young French-Canadian girl, a young
Huron boy and a young Protestant boy – but they interact with the real actors of
the time: pastor, member of parliament, etc.
