Published immediately after the Penetanguishene school crisis of 1979-1980, the book provides the context of this major Franco-Ontarian event. The first chapter offers a short history of the French presence in Huronia (1610-1967). Then follows an overview of the Franco-Ontarian demands for a French-language high school. A photo essay presents images of the 1979 resistance. The last section summarizes the steps taken by the community to bring the Ontario government to finally build a French-language high school, in spite of the local school board’s opposition. One annex offers a chronology of the 1966-1980 events, and another reproduces a dozen of editorials on this major school crisis.
