Historic novel based on “The Battle of Ford City” (now part of Windsor) in 1917-1918.
At the death of Father Lucien, the most French-Canadian patriot pastor of Our Lady
of the Rosary, bishop Michael Francis Fallon names a new pastor who is French by
name but not by heart. The parishioners protest (résistance) and even make representations
in Rome, but the pope confirms Fallon’s choice (obéissance). The account of this
battle is seen through the eyes of the Saint-Louis family who also has its part of
resistance to assimilation.
